SCC-CC Working Together for English Online Teaching against COVID-19
In response to the requirement of ‘Suspended In-Class, Ongoing Learning’ under the pandemic, the School of Liberal Arts (SoLA) has implemented online teaching from February 2020. According to different situations, various kinds of teaching have been implemented such as online teaching at home, hybrid teaching, distance teaching, etc.
Class activity in distance teaching
In order to inspect processive results of online teaching and further strengthen academic communication with CC, online teachers from CC, Nima and Elizabeth held open lessons on April 8 and April 13 respectively. With the guidance from teachers, students worked in groups and show cased their work to effectively interact with teachers online. Teachers from SoLA discussed strategies and class activities for online teaching.

Comments from teachers:
I really enjoyed the course content, and Nima is very passionate about what he teaches. Every student cooperates consistently with the teacher and faithfully performs classroom tasks. This class observation helps teachers of SoLA in creating strategies for more efficient delivery of online lessons and be more confident to ensure an uninterrupted learning journey for our students. (Lin--Coordinator of Business English)
Elizabeth and Nima are very experienced teachers, even though the classes were delivered online, they could still arranged the class activities well and the students could interact with each other. Both teachers and students enjoyed the classes and learned a lot. (Qiaoyang--Coordinator of CC English courses)
Teachers taking notes
Though the teacher delivered the class online, it is quite surprising to see that students, who are onsite, were quite engaged in annotating an article before a debate. During the debate, students were spontaneously helping each other to complete the group task. (Liz--Coordinator of Dazhuan English courses)
I have learnt a lot from Elizabeth’s and Nima’s class. Not only their way of motivating students to learn actively, but also their own logic and creativity. Especially during Nima’s class, how he encouraged students to learn words and understand them in particular context really inspires me a lot! (Spencer--CC English course teacher)
Teachers under discussion
In addition, CC teacher Stephanie is conducting online consultation classes for ELL3 students in this semester, which not only improves students ability and confidence in speaking English, but also verifies the ways of self-study.
Online consultation
As online teaching has its own advantages such as learning and reviewing at anytime and anywhere, it has been an irreversible trend in the reform of college English courses. Various forms of online teaching will continue to provide valuable experience for SoLA to improve online English courses.
